Alex is a practicing media and entertainment lawyer who is also a screen/stage director and producer and therefore, he brings a personal, comprehensive and practical understanding of the screen and stage industries to his legal practice. The events industry is an important and emerging area with corporate sponsorship on the increase. It is important that each event is skilfully assessed and managed to minimise risks. This is why a lawyers' role is vital. We can help you with the concept, design, negotiation or implementation stage of an event. Alex has been intimately involved in running major arts and cultural events like The NZ Screen Awards, The Documentary Edge Film Festival, The Documentary Edge Forum, The Documentary Edge Lab, Docu72 and The Asian Film Festival Aotearoa as well as in managing their sponsorship requirements. Our experience in advising on all aspects of events and sponsorship allow us to work with you on your organisational structures, marketing, negotiating and drafting sponsorship contracts, and dispute resolution.
Alex has lectured Production Management at The University of Auckland and given guest lectures at The South Seas Film & TV School. He was a National Executive Member of the Screen Directors Guild of NZ and currently sits on the Board of Film Auckland, The Documentary NZ Trust, Oryza Asian Performing Arts Foundation, Asia NZ Film Foundation and the Board of Xerxes - The Wiki Musical. In 2010/11, he was awarded a position on the sought after and prestigious Art Venture Programme.
